'Verstehen Sie Bahnhof?' ist eine choreografische und akustische Gestaltung des Berliner Hauptbahnhofs als Gesamtinstrument.
Performer und Musiker sind Teil einer Inszenierung von Alltagsbewegungen in einer komponierten Choreografie.
Im Reisegepäck haben sie präparierte Instrumente, die als 'Musique Concrete’ eine erweiterte Wahrnehmung der akustischen Landschaft des Bahnhofs kreieren.

"Takemeto" is an sound installation created douring my visit to the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in China in March 2010.
The installation is made from replications of studio chairs, wooden bars and ventilators.
On each ventilator a drain pipe is attached, which creates a humming sound in different pitch.
As an extension I performed with the installation and used microphones, megaphones and chinese education records to extend the sounscape.
The performance was recorded at the finisage of the "Shanzhai_Researching the Culture of Copying" exhebition at the Uferhallen in Berlin in Mai 2010.

workshops and video screenings on the theme "Verwertung" in Stattbad Wedding.
Verwertung = recycling, utilization, exploitation, employment, use of, putting to practical use

The focus of the work lies in the different approaches to Verwertung in audio and video installations and recycled art. In addition to the concerts and performances on the two weekends the exhibition will run throughout the entire festival as well
as workshops and video screenings on the other days.In recent months, the term Verwertung has come up in the media very often: The Verwertung of raw materials and recyclables. The Verwertung of the individual in the workforce.The Verwertung of intellectual property in the digital communications world. But also the (Abwertung) devaluation of property shares such as stocks, capital, etc, and the (Wertung) evaluation of moral standards in society.
The interdisciplinary arts festival Verwertung provides invited artists with the time and space to present their questions and answers on the Verwertung of art, life and consumption. The special ambiance of the disused building, which was once an indoor swimming pool, gives the visitors the opportunity to engage intensively with the theme.

Ausstellung - und Shop - in den Uferhallen

Das Label „Made in China“ steht in der allgemeinen westlichen Wahrnehmung für „Kopie“ oder hat zumindest den für den Westen unangenehmen Beigeschmack des Nicht-Authentischen. Tatsächlich wird in China kopiert, nachgeahmt und reproduziert wie in keinem Land sonst, aber die Einstellung zum Verhältnis zwischen Original und Kopie ist dort eine ganz andere. Der Unterschied zwischen Kopieren und Kreieren wird anders definiert. Jede künstlerische Ausbildung in China basiert auf dem Herstellen von Kopien - nicht aus Mangel an kreativen Fähigkeiten, viel mehr aus Gründen des Respekts.

Die Tatsache, dass die Massenherstellung von Kopien Urheberschutzrechte verletzen kann und in den meisten Fällen ausschließlich der persönlichen Bereicherung dient, steht außer Frage. Die Technik des Kopierens kann allerdings auch Neues schaffen. Durch Interpretation und Übersetzung entstehen Abweichungen, durch Mutationen entwickeln sich - wie bei lebenden Organismen - Änderungen, die tatsächlich neue Kreationen hervorbringen können.

Seit einiger Zeit gewinnt in China der Begriff „Shanzhai“ immer mehr an Bedeutung. „Shanzhai“ heißt wörtlich übersetzt „Gebirgsdorf“, ursprünglich ein Felsennest im Gebirge, das durch Befestigungsanlagen geschützt war. Später begann man, dieses Wort auch als Begriff für „Räuberlager“ zu gebrauchen, also „ausserhalb der Legalität“. Heute bedeutet es - mit all diesen Implikationen - „Kopieren“.

Die mit „Shanzhai“ bezeichnete zeitgenössische Kultur des Kopierens, der kreativen Imitation, verfolgt sicherlich auch unlautere Ziele. Als subversive Kulturtechnik allerdings, die sich inzwischen aller Medien bedient und auch vor politischen Anspielungen nicht zurückschreckt, hat sie im heutigen China einen besonderen gesellschaftlichen Stellenwert und inspiriert immer wieder auch westliche Künstler.

Alle in der Ausstellung präsentierten Original-Arbeiten sind in China entstanden und behandeln direkt oder indirekt das Thema "Kopie".


Shanzhai-Shop
Der Shop ist programmatischer Bestandteil der Ausstellung: Kopien einzelner Arbeiten, können während der Ausstellung im "Shanzhai-Shop" erworben werden. Alle Kopien werden in China (auch nach Wunschmaßen) von einheimischen Künstlern hergestellt, datiert, signiert, und mit dem Stempel "Made in China" versehen. Vor der Auslieferung an den Sammler wird jede Kopie vom Autor des Originals nummeriert und ebenfalls signiert.

During our visit to the Guangzhou Academy of fine Arts in China, I realized the installation "takemeto". Three ceiling ventilators are hanging from a wooden construction, replications of GAFA school chairs and wooden bars used in the schools studios.
On each ventilator a drain-piepe is fixed, huming in diffrent pitches. The soundscape changes by the position of the listener.

CHINA_BERLIN_ECHO takes of on 1. march for a month long travel to China
researching the topic of "copying".

Initiated by the School of Arts Weissensee we visit the Guangzhou Acadamy of Fine Arts and the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou for cooperative work.

"Radio Fragments"

"Radio Fragments" - Transforming radiophonic silences into sound stories

The installation will open with an improvised concert by Klass Hübner, Rúben Patiño, Benjamin Altermatt and Nuno da Luz at 8 pm

Radio Fragments is a radiophonic project that aims to explore an auditory attention, different from the one usually associated with the experience of listening to the radio, making use of the spaces in between words and songs that occur throughout the radiophonic discourse as its main reagent.

Its basic formula consists of an analysis-control mechanism (built in Super Collider) residing inside a computer to which a real-time mainstream radio broadcast is fed. This mechanism acts as a reversed-noise-gate, singling out what is usually ignored or avoided in a radiophonic context (whispers, stumbles, pauses, dead spaces and errors) and muting all the other sounds such as words or songs.These punctuating fragments become the raw materials from which Radio Fragments sonic concoction is brewed.

Recently a light responsive system, built with Arduino, was added to the installation. Such system reacts and enhances the moment of emergence of the fragments by brightening up momentarily and then returning to its initial dim state.

The exhibit entitled % vol. features works of painting, sculpture, photography, video and performance art, and proposes an experimental analysis of the parallel tracks that connect art with drinking. The thread running through the exhibit is the concept of “ next-to-last “ which, in the practice of both pursuits, allows to devote oneself fully to working towards an end, while stopping one step short of complete and utter self-destruction. What must be avoided above all is the last round, getting to the end : the final finish which would curtail any continuation
of the activity, whether that activity is drinking or making art.

Deleuze introduces the concept of next-to-last in relation to the drinker’s urge towards self-destruction. The artist conceives of his art in a similar way, running the risk – if he succeeds in his ultimate intent – of killing what he has made : the fortunate artist is one who has never taken that step, who has never gone beyond that “ next-to-last ”. Thus we must put off – as long as possible – that last round of drinks, as Debord would have it, like on those lovely long evenings when talk abounds and the spark of inebriation feels like it could keep you awake forever, urging you one step closer to solving the mystery, thus it is with art : striving to put off that next-to-last step on the path towards artistic closure.

Myspace.ldz project is a try of revitalization city space. The goal is to create a link between people, their daily living space and art. Putting art objects in the public space, removes the barrier in it’s perception which conventional gallery space creates. Project is even more important because it presents, not so well known in Poland, s i t e – s p e c i f i c a r t. We’re going to use around 30-40 showcases, one for each artist. Participants are not only some well known polish and foreign artists but also young people dealing with art or having interesting ideas. What means that art objects created in showcases going to be extremely different and original, according to artist’s interests, means and techniques used and of course a specific of a place of exposition.

Wir freuen uns besonders, hier mit ZIRKUS MINIMUS 2.0 eine Arbeit des Künstlers Edmund Piper zu zeigen, der, wie bereits in unserer Galerie geschehen, eine Kunstmesse im Maßstab 1:10 als Versinnbildlichung des Kunstmarktes im Raum situiert. Waiting in the wings _ performancepark

Take the first octoberweekend off for a walk in a park of the special kind.

The 2nd/3rd and 4th of October 2009 the second «Waiting in the Wings» will be presented with 30 different artists. «Waiting in the Wings» is a performance-festival taking place biennial in the Artspace Rondeel Maastricht.
It is a performance park, composed of the props, stage elements and the
performers and performances. The visitors move through a live-Installation wherein sculptures are provoking stories, paintings serve as scenery and the performers are turning into tableaux.

The visitors are so physically involved and connected to the performers.
„Waiting in the Wings“ is a possibility to connect local and international artists
and gives young artists the possibility to develop and show their work.

Sept 19th 2PM: Make or break: keyboard and effect bending with Klaas Hübner at
xxxxx-micro_research

In this workshop you will learn how to add some nice effects to your
keyboard or effect box. Please bring any kind of keyboard, toy, or
effect machine and we will open it up, and dig around for some new
sounds. With a bit of patience and luck you will go home with a few
new knobs or switches on your device to enjoy your next gig even more.

No experience required.

Cost: €10 per participant (this includes parts, and food)

Klaas Hübner [born 1979] Student of sculpture and Head of the Audio
Studio at Weissensee School of Arts Berlin. He took part as an artist

Ist ein Leben möglich, das dem Leben entflieht? In den Briefen des Hans Jürgen von der Wense wird ein solches entworfen. Sein eigenes. Ein Leben, das sich exzentrisch an den Sinn dieser Welt annähert, verweigert, aufschiebt und verspricht. Eine stete Wanderung – zwischen Pathos und Verzweiflung. Das Projekt «lass uns immer aufbrechen und nie ankommen» ist eine performative Annäherung an den Wenseanischen Kosmos. Mit der Suche nach diesem delirierenden Enthusiasten, dem Briefeschreiber, Komponisten, Astrologen, Übersetzer, dem Welteninventarisierer und exzessiven Wanderer, wird sein nie vollendetes Werk aufgenommen und um ein neues Kapitel erweitert. Doch ist dies eigentlich möglich? Ist Wense möglich?

Eine Ausstellung von Studierenden des Fachgebiets Bildhauerei der Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee: Rocco Berger, Gracja Birmes, Suzan Dahmen, Elisa Daubner, Julia Ehlers, Jan Gottschalk, Guðríður Skugga Guðlaugsdóttir, Sebastian Hagenow, Klaas Hübner, Anne Duk Hee Jordan, Eťa Kazmuková, Thomas Korn, Kuo Wei Lin, Judith Mohnfeld, Johanna Naatz, Sara-Jenny Patriksson, Franziska Partzsch, Janina Schütz, Irina Valkova, Jan Vormann

„Die schnellen Wirkungen sind nicht die neuen. Sie bewegt sich langsam, die heutige Revolution. 19 Studierende aus dem Fachgebiet Bildhauerei zeigen aktuelle Arbeiten im Foyer der Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. Die Ausstellung gibt sowohl einen Einblick in den Prozess des Schaffens einer eigenen künstlerischen Sprache, als auch in die Pluralität der
untersuchten Themenfelder. Die Arbeiten bewegen sich zwischen purer Materialität, exzentrischen Denkraumerweiterungen und feiner Beobachtung.“

Am Eröffnungsabend wird Klaas Hübner mit einer Klangperformance analog-elektronische Musik auf selbstgebauten Instrumenten vorstellen.

Mit dem Projekt „hörBAaR“ werden im Kino Lux in Baar (CH)
alte und neue Bilder der Gemeinde zwischen Zug und Zürich hörbar gemacht.

Klingende Heimat:
Die in Baar aufgewachsene Filmemacherin Michèle Ettlin wirft einen neuen Blick auf ihre alte Heimat. Ihre gesammelten Bilder bringt sie auf die Leinwand des Kino Lux. Diese Bilder wiederum beeinflussen die Klänge des Musikers Simon Berz und des Gastmusiker Roland Dahinden.
Als Zentrum der kollektiven Improvisation dienen die Bilder der Stadt, in dem das Kino steht. Da, wo sonst „Traum-Bilder“ projiziert werden und die Zuschauer in ferne Welten entführt werden, erscheint nun die unmittelbare Umwelt der Lokalität. Die visuelle Interpretation des Ortes wird zur Partitur für die Musiker. BADABUM experimentiert mit der Verschmelzung von Improvisation und Komposition und sucht nach Beziehungen von Bild und Ton.

Die DJ Crew Dustsurfers serviert nach dem Konzert ausgesuchte Filmmusik im Foyer des Kino Lux. Als musikalisches Dessert bittet der Berliner Bildhauer Klaas Hübner zu Tisch und offeriert einen klingenden Fruchtsalat. Eine Crêperie und die hörBAaR sorgen für das leibliche Wohl.

DIY-Festival Zürich

diy* — Art and Technology Festival
Friday 5^th until Sunday 7^th December 2008, Zurich
* do it together, the culture of collaborative art-making
Exhibition, concerts, talks, workshops and a juried prize: the festival of Making Art is being held for the 4^th time and is once again conceived as a transdisciplinary platform for those who aren’t satisfied with commercial products and artwork, as well as people who prefer to tailor their tools by themselves to fit their own wishes.
The venue is Dynamo and its open workshops in the center of the city of Zurich. The festival is being organized by the Swiss Mechatronic Art Society, SGMK, in partnership with the Cycle Opérant art collective.

Amongst other artists matchees is going to show how to built oscillators (inspired by Nic Collins) in a walk-in workshop. We are gonna pack them nicely in plastic fruits (or whatever comes to hand) and have a nice fruit-salad at the end of the day. It is gonna be delicious in taste and sound. Oscillator signals will be send through both your dish and your body; you are welcome to have a try and become a living switch.
